1. Choose an agent who specializes in Construction Insurance and who concentrates on being your partner and solving your problems.
2. Look for carriers who specialize in Construction and have done so for a number of years.....they will have the endorsements and wording you need to compete.
3.If your payroll fluctuates more than 10% a quarter, consider doing an endorsement to your policy each quarter in order to avoid large policy audits at year end.
4. Discuss the consequences on your insurance before beginning operations in another state.
5. Have your contracts reviewed by a Construction Contract Lawyer and your insurance agent PRIOR to bidding.
6. Have your agent review your past year's certs for any unusual requests, before going to market the next year, and also tell your agent of any changes in operation contemplated in the upcoming year.
7.Talk to your agent before getting involved in a wrap up or a joint venture.
8. Ask your agent about an OSHA Safety Grant, Drug Safety Credits and the arbitration credit, all possible ways for you to save money.
9. Tell your agent you want to know about any free seminars that their agency or carriers are putting on relating to your business.
10. Once, you have found a true partner-agent,unless you have had major changes in your operations, only bid your insurance every 3-5 years, so that you don't get over exposed in the market place.
